There are many engaging way to practice fluency within the classroom setting. Activities can include:

In addition to sentence and passage reading, phrase reading in a great way to build fluency skills.
Edward Fry’s list of phrases incorporates the first 600 words in the Fry word lists.

Creating Audio Books with QR Codes using your own Library
QR code Fluency lesson The information in this link will provide step by step instructions to use QR codes as a means to increase fluency levels and capture audio files of students reading picture books. The QR codes are placed on the back of these library books. When these books are checked out of the library, the code may be scanned using an iPhone or iPad, and the voice of a child reading this book will be heard! This lesson is infused with assessment for learning strategies. Kara Dawson, Lynn Swift, Debbie Nelson and Carol Walters were always impressed by the levels of engagement we saw in students as we shared this work across the Comox Valley.

Practicing Dictation and Prosody using Technology
Use images of passages or images of book pages to set up an exemplar and multiple student readings to build fluency.

Using the Book Creator app insert (+ tool) a page of a book or a passage of text can using the Photo or Camera feature. A model reading audio example can be recorded using the insert (+ tool) Add Sound feature. Students can listen to the audio model (double tap the sound icon) and then add their own recording to the page using the (+ tool) Add Sound feature.

Students can make a Flipgrid video recording of themselves reading a passage or text from a book. these can be shared with the teacher, family or uploaded to an eportfolio.

How to use Microsoft Reading Progress in Teams
Student can copy and paste a passage into Word and have Immersive Reader (View tab and Immersive Reader) read the text out loud. Students can practice reading the passage out loud and have dictate feature (Home tab) in Word type the text. They can listen to the dictated text read back to them using Immersive Reader (View tab and Immersive Reader).
