Climate change inquiry guide for 7-12 Educators
The purpose of this guide is to present opportunities to evolve students’ understanding of the climate and climate change, assess the risks and opportunities to mitigate and adapt to the changing climate, unpack ethical dimensions, and honour emotions that are part of the process of coming to understand the complexity and urgency of the issue.
Climate Change Curriculum Stages
Climate change curriculum broken down into Grades 1-2, 4 to 6, 7 to 9, and 10-12. Organized in topics of weather and climate, influence of weather and climate, human influence on climate, climate change impact, the response to climate change-social and technical.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. Teacher Guide and Class Set
Recommended Age: Grade 8
Each book in ISSUES 21 is built upon an inquiry framework with three main components: an essential question, a sequence of instruction that provides modeling, mentoring, and monitoring; and a culminating writing activity. Students are introduced to the topic via an open-ended inquiry question. Students are challenged to investigate, analyze, and demonstrate knowledge of the real-world issues.

Citizen’s Coolkit on Climate Change & Urban Forestry
The Neighbourhood Urban Forestry Coolkit is a visual and fun guide for people to engage with family, friends, and neighbours on issues and solutions related to urban forestry and climate change on their block. Created locally by UBC gradute students.
Since 2008, more than half of the world’s population is living in urbanized areas. In cities, people consider green spaces as an important indicator of their living environment and quality of life, given their values and services such as shading in a hot summer day or beautifying a street nearby.
This amazing kit provides a full set of lessons to explore trees on your local school ground and local school neighbourhood.
Lessons include: Mapping, measuring, and experiential observations.
Consider: The city of Courtenay has an active Urban Forest Plan in place, it s encouraged to get a hold of the city planner to see how they might be able to support your lessons and student learning.

Understanding Food and Climate Change: A Systems Perspective explores the links between food systems and our changing climate with an emphasis on systems thinking. A systems approach helps to illuminate how seemingly disconnected phenomena are often dynamically linked and can be understood best when viewed in a larger context. Lessons for Transformation
The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and the BC Teachers’ Federation have teamed up to create free classroom-ready materials that help students engage with the two great inconvenient truths of our time: climate change and rising inequality. Consisting of eight modules designed for students in grades 8 to 12 (adaptable for intermediate), the package explores climate justice within the context of BC’s communities, history, economy and ecology.

Climate Change Adaptation
For grades 6 to 9 for classes in a variety of disciplines. This lesson plan encourages students to think about climate change adaptation and mitigation through a variety of activities that teachers can choose from, from simpler activities like a value line, to a major final project where students create their own exhibit on climate change.
As cities around the world race to implement green canopy strategies, we’ve developed a metric—the Green View Index—by which to evaluate and compare canopy cover. In collaboration with the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Cities and the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers community, we will continue to grow this database to span cities all over the globe.
