A mentor can be any educator that has experience or skills they would like to share with a colleague. The model is set up to support professional autonomy, with guidance available if you feel you need it.

Release Time:
  • Teachers in their first five years of teaching are eligible for up to two (2) days of release.
  • Teachers who are experiencing a significant change in their assignment, are eligible for up to two (2) days of release.
  •  Experienced teachers are eligible for up to one (1) day of release.

Additional time may be approved upon request, in consultation with the Advisory Committee.

Once your application form is approved, you will receive instructions on how to book off through the AMS.

Teacher Peer Support

Teaching is a complex profession full of changing landscapes, a variety of relationships, significant responsibilities, and rewarding experiences. It can be hard work. We know, as teachers, that some of the deepest growth and learning takes place when we struggle and work to overcome obstacles.

“The Mentorship and Peer Support Program provides opportunities to form partnerships with colleagues who bring experience, compassion, and skills to share. It is a completely confidential, non-judgmental, and non-evaluative process where two teachers work together. Whether you are experiencing challenges or simply seeking growth, you can set your goals with your partner, brainstorm ideas, and share insights and concerns. The partnership is flexible and can evolve as you and your Mentor/Peer Supporter decide.

There is release time available!

If you are interested or curious, please feel free to email Lucy Nelson directly at mentorship@sd71.bc.ca, or by calling the CDTA office at 250-338-1461, Ext. 3.
