Early Years Literacy Learning
Grades 4-9
In the intermediate/middle years, learners continue to build confidence as speakers, readers, and authors, learning through
approaches that advantage their curiosity about the world and increasing need for independence and social belonging with peer groups. Rich literature, storytelling, and authentic literacy experiences in addition to explicit skills and strategy instruction continue to be critical. Content and critical literacy, digital and transliteracy, as well as meaningful integration across the curriculum furthers student competence and transference of learning. See the Intermediate/Middle Literacy Learning framework here.
