Happy Tuesday! This week’s Tech Tip, by Shannon Hagen, zooms in on the power of QR codes\u2014those square-shaped barcodes that you can quickly scan with your phone\u00a0or iPad to get to a website or open digital content.\u00a0\u00a0As this year’s Code Quest Arcade gets closer, we are asking anyone who would like to have their class share their coding projects to please take a moment to open this link (<\/strong>Arcade Presenter Form<\/strong><\/a>)\u00a0and fill out a quick form by May 3rd. It’s just to help us know how many computers we need for the event.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

QR codes<\/strong>\u00a0are being used more and more as people figure out how to use them effectively.\u00a0 They allow users to quickly access information from a web browser just by\u00a0scanning the QR code\u00a0<\/strong>with a mobile device.\u00a0 In the past, we would have to use a separate app or program to create these codes.\u00a0 Now however, it is built right into the\u00a0Edge browse<\/strong>r.\u200b\u200b\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

(It can be done in Chrome but with a couple of extra steps)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Follow the directions below to do this:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1. \u00a0Open the\u00a0Edge browser<\/strong>.\u00a0 The icon looks like this:<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Type in the website address you would like to create a QR code from in the address bar.\u00a0 Press\u00a0E<\/strong>nter<\/strong>\u00a0to go to the site.\u00a0 (You won’t see the QR code icon\u00a0yet<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n

3. \u00a0Click on the address bar right next to the website address.\u00a0 You now see a few icons being displayed on the far right.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Click on the\u00a0QR code icon<\/strong>\u00a0(see image above).\u00a0 This will open up another window which will allow you to\u00a0Copy<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0Download<\/strong>\u00a0the QR code.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 The user just has to open the camera app on the mobile device and frame the QR code in the yellow brackets displayed on the screen.\u00a0 The link will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.\u00a0 Tap on this to\u00a0open the website.<\/p>\n

For Google Chrome:<\/strong>

Open the Chrome Browser.\u00a0 Enter in website address.\u00a0 Press Enter to go to site.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Click on “…” (ellipses) on the far right of the address\u00a0bar at the top.\u00a0 Select “Save and share” -> “Create QR code.”<\/span><\/p>\n
