Lisa Read from Focused\u200b Ed was up last week and she showed us the Gale Topic Search. I had forgotten how awesome it is!\u00a0Do you have students in your class who have a difficult time coming up with\u00a0research\u00a0topics for Inquiry projects? \u00a0Perhaps you have students who\u00a0say “I’m going to my project on Hockey”? \u00a0Gale Power Search\u00a0is a wonderful product that you can use to narrow down searches and come up with topics. It also instantly provides you with some articles to read about your newly narrowed down topic.\u200b<\/span><\/div>\n

To find Gale Topic Search:<\/strong><\/div>\n
1. Go to\u00a0Learn71.ca<\/strong>\u00a0and click on\u00a0Library Commons<\/strong>\u00a0and then\u200b\u00a0Research Database\u00a0<\/strong>or just click on Research Databases<\/strong>.<\/span><\/div>\n
2.\u00a0 Click on\u00a0Database<\/strong>\u00a0then choose one of the\u00a0Gale databases<\/strong>\u00a0(pick the one that is related the closest to the topic you are looking for).<\/div>\n
3.\u00a0 You shouldn’t have to log in when you are at school but you can also use them at home. Log in using your school password (these can be found by logging in to the Destiny library search and then clicking on Passwords).<\/div>\n
\u200b4.\u00a0 Click on\u00a0\u200b<\/span>Advanced Search<\/strong><\/div>\n
5.\u00a0 Click on\u00a0Topic Finder<\/strong><\/div>\n

6. \u00a0\u200b\u200bNow comes the cool part! \u00a0Type in your topic in the\u00a0Search\u00a0<\/strong>spot at the top right and click to search.<\/div>\n
Now you will see a wheel with other topics branching out of the original. \u00a0Move your mouse around the circle to explore the other topic and click on ideas to see articles on the right.<\/span><\/div>\n
