It is anonymous to the students and it is a safe, fun way to ask them how they are doing (thanks to Tracy, one of our fabulous Teacher Librarians for this idea). Read on to learn more about Teams Reflect and to get some tips for primary teachers using computers with their students.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tips for Using Computers with Primary Students:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. Give your students a card that contains their username and password. <a href=\"https:\/\/learn71.ca\/tech-tips\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2026\/07\/cards2022.docx\">Click here to open one that you can use<\/a><strong>\u200b<\/strong>. Teach them how to take care of computers and proper behaviour when they are using them. You can use this responsible use agreement: <a href=\"https:\/\/learn71.ca\/tech-tips\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2026\/07\/Responsible-Use-Agreement-Primary.pdf\">SD#71 Primary Responsible Use Agreement<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>3. Show them what they are doing before they get on the computer then show them again when they open up the computers.<\/p>\r\n<p>4.\u00a0 Start slow. Many will have never used a mouse (but may be familiar with a touch screen). Let them try some games that teach mouse skills:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abcya.com\/grades\/1\/skill\"><strong>abcya\u200bSkills<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Many of these games are designed just to help kids learn\u00a0how to click and drag.<\/p>\r\n<p>5. Start a Typing Program. This will also help students with letter recognition.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn71.ca\/integrating-technology\/\"><strong>Click here for instructions to help you use Typing Pal\u200b<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>6.\u00a0 You could introduce word processing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.educationworld.com\/a_curr\/curr022.shtml\">C<strong>lick here to read an article with ideas<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>or\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn71.ca\/techskillsgrade\/tech-skills-by-grade-wordprocessing-primaryteachers-resources\/\">cli<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn71.ca\/techskillsgrade\/tech-skills-by-grade-wordprocessing-primaryteachers-resources\/\"><strong>ck here for some lessons to help you<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>7. Have a signal to get student&#8217;s\u00a0attention and get their hands off of the computers. For example you can have them put their hands on their heads or cross their arms and then you can see that they are not using their computers.\u00a0 Some teachers have the students turn the laptop around or put the screen at &#8220;Half Mast&#8221;\u00a0(half way down not closed which would turn the computer off).<\/p>\r\n<p>8.\u00a0 Teach your class Internet Safety.\u00a0 Here are some great sites to help you:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learn71.ca\/cybersafety\/primary-cybersafety-lessons\/\">D<strong>igital Citizenship for Primary Classes<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>9. Teach them how to create folders, save files and keep those files organized<strong>.<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn71.ca\/techskillsgrade\/tech-skills-by-grade-my-files-primary-resources\/\"><strong>\u200bClick here for help with<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>this.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>10. Use the computer to teach research skills:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn71.ca\/techskillsgrade\/tech-skills-by-grade-internetsearching-primary-resources\/\"><strong>Click here for some help with this.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p><strong class=\"ms-rteFontSize-4\">Using Reflect in Teams:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>This\u00a0is an extension in TEAMs that may help students recognize and navigate their emotions by providing regular opportunities to share and be heard.\u00a0Reflect is a great way to help students think about their feelings and reflect on what you are doing in class.
